Why does an outer mirror cover need an expiry date?

It’s a GM part. It’ll disintegrate.

So many questions.
Why is the date written backwards?
O/S mirror for lhd or rhd? Why don’t they just say right or left hand?

O/s is outside , mirror cover package (pair) “carbon fibre”

Maybe that’s the exact date that carbon fibre trim becomes uncool.

Does this mean carbon fibre decomposes? Oh god is our i3 going to go moldy, get covered in flies and turn in to a smelly pile of mush on the drive in a couple of years?!?!?1?!

Biodegradable plastic?

Does it have adhesive?
![]() 04/27/2017 at 06:34 |

I suspect that’s the real answer - the adhesive’s backing may begin to fail around that date.
Another possibility is, if it’s a licensed design, maybe it’ll be the date at which the license is terminated, and it can no longer be sold without violating some design patent or something.

Untreated (I.e unpainted) carbon fibre, like most materials, tends to suffer under UV radiation. Paint it and it’ll be good.

Oh, it’s still good after then. It just doesn’t taste quite the same.
